As most of you probably already know, I’m a dog person. My parents always had dogs when I was growing up and I have to pet pretty much every dog I see when Eva and I are out together. She found it rather amazing that I’ve gone the last five years without finding a dog somewhere and bringing it home. But two weekends ago I got an email from my dad about an English Bulldog that needed a home. After meeting her and discussing our situation, we decided this was probably our best chance to get a dog.

Last night we went to Providence to pick her up and bring her to her new home.

Since Eva and I don’t know where our camera is yet, the only pictures we have are from my dad’s phone. But there will definitely be more pictures to come.

Progress at last

The de-leading of our house finally started today. Of course, this means that Eva and I are living at a hotel for the next two weeks.

Best new year’s ever

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Eva and I are generally not very exciting. Our new year’s eve usually consists of watching tv, typically the pilot episode of Futurama. But this year Eva scored us tickets to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones Hometown Throwdown 11 at Lupo’s.  As a bonus, one of the openers was The Agents, although Dawn wasn’t there. The one down side to the show was that we are at an awkward age where we’re too old to be there by ourselves but too young to have brought kids.

On a less happy note, the concert was followed by both of us being sick over the weekend, and me taking tuesday and wednesday as sick days from work.

Cogs of Conflict: Dos

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

As those of the FPS video persuasion know, Gears of War 2 came out last month. I, being the nice wife that I am, suggested that Mike get it, since he really liked Gears of War. I even took it off a shelf to show him the box. Mike hemmed and hawed, but in the end, did not purchase the game. After playing the game with John (a buddy of ours), he now wants to stop and pick it up every time we see a video game store. I enjoy being contrary, so it hasn’t happened yet, but one of these days, we will see whether this conflict involving cogs will ever end.

Corn-tastic!

We hit up the Davis Mega-Maze on Saturday with Sarah, Molly and Megan. It took us over 3.5 hours to get through the whole thing (although there were a couple of stops), and a great time was had by all. Well, everyone except for Molly had a great time. Sadly, for Molly, it was a day of life lessons. The first had to do with the fact that once you are a big girl, no one is going to carry you all the time. The second was that popcorn sometimes wedges itself between your gums and your teeth, and it feels weird. The third, and worst, is that splinters hurt. A lot. About 75% of the way through the maze, Molly got a splinter. We found a maze employee, who got us some tweezers and a sparkly band-aid, and then, when we couldn’t get it out without Molly screaming like “we were killing children”, she gave us directions out. You can see the band-aid on Molly’s right thumb, and the very sad expression on her face tells you how much fun she had at the end of the day.

Davis Mega Maze

On the positive side, things got better once we had some food and played a little bit of the wii. We made mii’s for everyone, and silly glasses and crazy eyebrows made everyone a little happier.

The Picture Place

So, I finally learned how to take pictures off Mike’s camera. I then remembered how to load them into our online galleries. So, I give you All the Pictures I Meant To Publish Before.

Flowers
First, we had a ton of rain this summer, and our flowers looked pretty good thanks to that.

Tri Delta Convention
I had a blast at the Tri Delta Convention in July. I would highly recommend it for any Tri Delta. It also helped that a bunch of Rose girls were there, being wacky and cool and totally rocking it.

Rehearsal Dinner
And, most recently, our Labor Day weekend rocked as we went to Paul and Anne’s wedding. It was a wonderful time, and I am so excited and happy for the two of them, I can’t help but smile. Mike was in charge of the camera for the wedding, which means that there aren’t a ton of pictures, but we still had a great time!

More on our new friend

So, I have very little control over my balance. I blame my inner ear or something. Anyways, that makes it difficult to play a fourth of the wii fit games, since they are all about balance. Except for one balance game. I totally rock the “sit still and don’t move” game. I made it 3 minutes without twitching, thus becoming a champion sitting-stiller!

And Many More!!

Mike and I spent part of the weekend down in RI to say “Happy Birthday” to our niece, Molly. It was an important birthday, at least from a binary perspective. Here are both Molly and Megan showing their ages.

Molly and Megan, being adorable

In some sense, it is neat that Molly is one left shift from Megan now. Oh powers of two, you are so neat! As are Megan and Molly. Happy Birthday!

Stuck in the Middle

There are so many things I want to post about, the Tri Delta convention and our lawn being two of those things. Unfortunately, I really, really want to add pictures, and to do that, I need to first, find the camera; second, take the pictures; third, find a way to get the pictures off the camera; and fourth, find a way to put the pictures online. This list of things to do doesn’t even involve a “profit” step, so you can see why it is taking so long to get through it.

One thing I can post about that does not require pictures is my 18+ hour trek to get home from Chicago. And really, there isn’t too much to say about that other than I hate cut-offs of more than 20 minutes before departure to check a bag, I hate the liquids rule for carry-ons, I cry for humanity (or at least our portion of it) when I see rudeness and ugliness in what is a difficult situation for everyone involved, and I especially hate the fact that this could have probably have been avoided if I just figured out how to set my cellphone alarm. Also, I rely on technology way too much, seeing how by the end of the day, every electronic device I owned was way low on battery power. Luckily, Mike was at the airport to get me, and that put a smile on my face (at 1:30 in the morning).

Wiiiiiiiii!!!!

Mike and I got a wii about a month ago, and it is wonderful. We have been looking to get one since September, but we aren’t overly dedicated to it. If they had been in stock when we happen to be at the store or website, we would have gotten one sooner. The only reason we have one is that my sister called one Saturday night, asking where she could get one, I told her how insanely popular it was, and how you couldn’t just go to the store to get one. She was slightly disappointed, but then she called again, about 30 minutes later, to say that all Toys’R'Us locations were supposed to get shipments the next morning. So Sunday morning at 9:30 found Mike and I sitting outside a Toys’R'Us in the drizzle, waiting for the store to open to pick up a wii!

We have enjoyed playing it. So far, my favorite game is Super Mario Galaxy. Mike and I play together and we take turns holding down the enemies of the other. It is a ton of fun. Now I want a wii fit! Mike says that they are too popular to just go to the store and get one, so I am waiting for Amy to want one, then it should be a snap!
